Game Mechanics

Roleplay

Most of the interactions in Golen Gateways will be roleplay-based. These roleplays are done via discord, either private or public. Public roleplays are done in the dedicated section for the specific chapter, and a channel is created by members to roleplay. Only public, sfw rps are eligible for  doubloon collection!  Nsfw rps are allowed as long as both participants are of age, but cannot be rped in the public server. This does not extend to gore/violence/disturbing content, which will require a warning but is still fair game. Most roleplays will not require many rolls, unless a  discipline or ability is being activated. If you want to implement rolls to regular RPs, feel free! Mainly, rolls will be implemented during events or plot-integral RPs.

Modifiers

For balance reasons, stat bonuses are calculated slightly differently. Each point in a stat block essentially stands for half of a modifier. ie, if you have a stat score of 2, the modifier added to your rolls is 1. half numbers are rounded down. Here's a handy chart for easy reference!

1: +0
2: +1
3: +1
4: +2
5: +2

Combat

Combat can be initiated at any time in any roleplay, except for some events in which violence will be prohibited. Combat can go as far as you would like, though if a participant grows uncomfortable and expresses desire to end to interaction, the interaction will be dropped immediately. Death is an option, and if you would like to have a character killed, you must get consent from the player! Combat mechanics use three main attributes: strength, dexterity, and stamina. However, sometimes, magical attacks will be made using resolve.

Combat is generally done hand-to-hand, or with a weapon. There is no attack bonus from weapons, unless they are particular boosts purchased from the shop. To make an attack roll, the attacker and the target makes a set of contested rolls. The attacker rolls 1d20 + a modifier, depending on the attack type. For an unarmed strike, the strength modifier is added. For an armed strike, the dexterity modifer is added. The target can make a roll of 1d20 + dex to dodge. The higher roll wins. Damage is done if the attacker wins this roll contest.

For an unarmed strike, damage is calculated depending on the attacker's strength attribute, as follows:

STR 1-4: 1d4

STR 5+: 1d6

For an armed strike, damage is always a flat 1d6.

For an magical strike, damage is calculated depending on the attacker's resolve stat, as follows:

RES 1-4: 1d4

RES 5+: 1d6

Certain abilities may add damage done.

Hit Points

Hit points, or HP are determined by your stamina stat. The stamina to HP calculation is as follows:

1: 12
2: 16
3: 20
4: 24
5: 28

Basically, every stamina point is equal to 4 HP. As people upgrade and gain more stat points, their HP will increase accordingly.

Death:

Death must be agreed to by both parties. If a combat gets down to the point in which one or more characters are at risk of  hitting zero HP, a warming reminder will be given that death is imminent. If both parties agree to continue, then character death may happen! If you plan ahead that you would like to have a character death, combat can be skipped! In the event of character death, the player who died will receive a new character slot to replace the one lost, if they so choose to have it.

Currency

Currency is used to purchase things at the Shop, including attribute bonuses, special items, character upgrades, and character slots. While the Awakened often utilize Sleeper money, there is a specific type of currency used among the Golden City: Doubloons. Gold coins imbued with the magic of the city that hold little to no worth to Sleepers.
